“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” – Matt 11:28 I didn’t know what to expect when I arrived in the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. Â I knew only of the vision God had endowed Ginny Corbett and I with months earlier. Â I had my ideas as…

Erik we can’t say than you enough for your willing heart, your hours of preparation, your energy and your obedience to God in being a part of FTL. We appreciate your candid spirit throughout the week and your encouragement for us to embrace the Lord’s design for our lives. Best wishes on your new home – I hope it’s a sweet place of rest for your family.
Hey Eric,
I’m from Greenville, NC and I am a photographer that was coming up to model for the FTL workshop. My story is almost exact as far as the house goes. Long story short, we’ve been working on buying a home since October and after one failed attempt, we took the control out of our hands and 100% gave it to God. After a very, VERY long story that is too long to share, God showed Himself to us in VERY miraculous ways once the control was given to Him.
I have an 11 year stepdaughter, 7 year old stepson, and 1 year old daughter. My husband and I are both self employed and we were in a rental that the owners wanted to sell. We were supposed to be out of this house 2 months ago. God kept us from losing the roof over our head and just today, we closed on my very first home…the one we originally were denied! God is SOOO good! Due to the bad weather, I wasn’t able to get up to the mountains. I wanted so badly to have that time of fellowship, worship and photography. A friend was supposed to come with me to model. I found out as we were debating on whether or not to try the drive, that she is pregnant with her 3rd child, and they were going to announce it at their son’s first birthday party which was that Thursday. We wouldn’t have made it home in time if we had gone! God is amazing and is constantly at work. Even though, I didn’t get a chance to go to the FTL workshop, God showed me He is still there with me, no matter where I am!
Sorry this was so long…but thank you for sharing your experience!
Thanks for sharing your personal side. Glad to hear that God made ways for you in the mist of setbacks. Maybe one day I will be able to attend a class you are teaching.
God definitely worked amazing wonders up on that mountain and continued to in our lives below. It was very encouraging to hear everyone’s testimony and yours for how you came to pick wedding photography. The Lord spoke to each of us in His own way and revealed truths and new direction. Thank you for being open to sharing your story and being so willing to teach us everything you know. =)
thank you for sharing! what a beautiful place to get closer to God and connect around photography. I really hope to make it to the next one.
incredible.
Wow! this made my day.
wow. just wow. i really wish that i had taken the opportunity to attend this! God has been working so much in me with my business, and i think i’ve only really started to realize it the last month or so. it’s amazing to hear about others’ experiences.
LOVE it Eric…you are awesome…I am so thankful to have crossed paths with you! Thanks for your transparency and being willing to give up some of your “secrets” to help your brothers and sisters around you.
God is good!
dude. wow…
thanks for sharing your experience with us. i just want to tell you that i learned SO much from you- thanks for sharing your testimony and all the photography awesomeness with each of us. your passionate spirit made me so willing to learn from you and you grabbed my attention the whole time. you are a truly talented teacher. i have so much more to learn- and so much to work on, but you totally inspired me to find my vu ja dae. my style is totally going to evolve into a style that I am passionate about. thanks for EVERYTHING!
so glad yall got into the house!! :)
Sounds like an amazing experience. And seriously, I’m not sure there is anyone who photographs women more beautifully.
Awesome. Thank you so much for your openness, I can’t tell you how much I learned from you in TN. I find a lot of my stories start with, “And that one time Erik was telling me…” then fill in the blank with an awesome tip or word from God. You have a gift, I am so grateful that you shared part of it with us.
Erik, Thank you so much for taking the time to teach us many important lessons! I really enjoyed hearing you speak and seeing the wonderful things God has done/is doing in your life. Your devotion to teaching the workshop had such an awesome impact on me. And even though you talk a lot, I NEVER got tired of it! ;) Love your photos, your insight, and your passion for God & marriage.
You have such passion! It shows with everything you do…thanks for sharing your skills!!
aw man… you’re gonna make me cry… *ahem* gotta man up! haha kidding…. but shoot.. you recapped that first night, and through all the times I’ve shared about that past week… that first night is always part of it. The Lord is good, and He pours out so much more than we ever ask or imagine. I have no idea if the next time I see you will be when you’re shooting my wedding or what not, but I do hope it’ll be sooner than that. Peace bro!

WOW…Love your side of the story that has brought all of us together! You totally express amazingness when you say “There was an authentic spirit here. An honesty and sincerity that permeated the entire mountain.” SOO TRUE! LOVE IT! God ROCKS the Face off FTL! Praise HIM! P.S Thank you for listening to His calling and teaching us soo much!
thanks for being so real. i’ve got quite a story to share with you if we’re able to chat at any point at wppi. looks like i’ll be bunking with gary at the mgm, thanks for helping set it up.
I posted my awesome comment on the wrong post;) sorry!
P-TANG!! I’m stoked that you stuck with it!
It was great reading this! I need to be reminded daily to TRUST in the Lord and not in man, or myself! It was an awesome week!
Awesome post!
your photos captured the amazing time we all shared together!
Dude! It was so great to finally meet you, fellowship with you, pray with you, pray for you, learn from you, be spurred on by you, see God in you, see God overflow out of you, and see God’s grace overflow onto you, and so much more!
Those late-night sessions were super tiring, but I wouldn’t have had those late-night sessions any other way than the way that they happened!
P Tang and I are still yelling “COME ON! Ha-ha!” every so often ;)
It brings us so much joy :D
Looks like an amazing time!
Erik, reading this brought tears to my eyes. Not to sound corny or anything. But it also brings a smile to my face because I know firsthand that it is how God works. Sometimes there is a chain of “unlucky” events that happen and God wants to see how much faith we keep through it all. And in the end He always come through. In HIS own way. And that makes me smile.
That photo collage of Rebekah made me laugh out loud! :) Thank you for being an awesome teacher. We really appreciate the sacrifice you made being away from your family to teach us. Congratulations on the house!
Hello – I came across your website/blog after aimlessly wandering around the abyss known as “The Internet” and Im hooked! Ive had the photo-bugg in me for awhile and Im always keeping my eyes open for “good” stuff. (And believe me there’s a lot of “stuff” out there!) However ALL of your images are like eye candy and completely stunning! Just wanted to share, may God continue to bless you and your family! And keep more coming!
sounds amazing! thanks for sharing and being so candid about your faith!
Before I forget — happy 2 days before your birthday day!
Hopefully the “big move” will be all completed by then so you can enjoy the day with your family :)
Hey Erik! it’s Helen (p-tang’s girlfriend!). I’ve only heard amazing things from the trip and I think it’s taken him a full week to briefly recap his experience at ftl! Thanks for being such an encouragement to glendon and for playing a significant role in his journey. we’re excited to see what God has in store! Blessings to you and your family :) hope to see you sometime soon!
it’s funny… today’s morning I decided to make a little run throught the photografers site’s, coz I’m about to do new one and I need a little inspiration. And what is amaizing, I founded not only graet artists with their great images, that I love to look on, but additionaly i found a true belivers, people who desires for Jesus first and than anything else. I’m encouraged. God bless you in the midst of all you are handling with… greetings from Poland.
Hello Eric!! I just have to say that I was truly blessed by your blogs. After attending a Dream Series session at my church last night and then reading this post and the one following, I could have ran around the block (if it weren’t for the weather conditions at the moment at least).
I’m an amateur photographer with hopes of becoming a true professional one day. Seeing folks who are walking in their gift is encouraging. God has blessed you with a talent to reach people in a unique way. I will definitely share this with the folks in my photography ministry at church.
Thanks for being a blessing and may God continue to shine through you and your work. God bless!

Great word man. The Lord is faithful I am reminded of that everyday. Thanks for sharing that. Very cool
I enjoyed reading your post. The pictures are very good and inspirational. I like your style. Hav a great day.
Oh man, it’s sounds like an amazing time. Inspiring on every level. It must have been so enriching to spend time with other people who share in your passions, photography and God.

This life is amazing. Â This world we see, and the people in it, teem with life and yearn for us, as photographers, to tell their story in a way that is honest and passionate. Â In a way that belies the sentiment that “every picture has been taken already.” Â The Creator of Creativity is far from…

It is exciting and challenging to hear other photographers using the gifts God has given them to glorify Him. Thank you for that! I’m definitely looking into being there.
What an awesome idea ~ Hope it turns out really well!
What a great testimony. It’s encouraging to see other photogs ministering to others spiritually while teaching their craft. I wish we had workshops like this in the NY area. God bless.
Well said.
ooh! Just went over and looked over the site. I am so very excited for you. What a great idea. Maybe I WILL see you in the mountains….:)
Why are there blessed photographer/business people now, Ansel Adams would cringe at tying your religion into your photography in such a public way, as though you just got outta high school, and got your little clique started as quickly as possible. You don’t see any of the old school photographers blessing everything and everyone every second they get, they just focus on the art of photography. If I were of a belief system different from yours and were looking for a photographer to shoot my wedding I would see that perhaps you would be uncomfortable at my wedding if we prayed to an asteroid or announced that we believed that our religion was the only way to salvation and all others would surely burn in hell (right when you would be looking down the barrel of your camera documenting it). Or if I were simply one of the hundreds of religions around the world that are counter to Christianity, you wouldn’t feel comfortable and I wouldn’t feel comfortable, so why announce this every chance you get? Because you think you are right and everyone else is wrong, period. You are living in a state of delusion.
Wow, that’s awfully judgmental.
Why would I be concerned about what Ansel Adams would think about my viewpoint?
I do not tie my religion into my photography. First of all, I have no religion (on my better days), and second I couldn’t anymore separate God from my photography any more than I can separate taste from my food, it simply is.
Why would I want to praise God every chance I get? I suppose if the only reason I was a photographer was to make money, I wouldn’t. I am a photographer because there are people I am supposed to impact that I would never had met had I not been one, that’s it, He could have just as easily made me a chef. What money I make is only a benefit, not an end. I find it odd that you consider bookings as a meaningful argument as to why I would speak about this publicly.
Regardless, I have shot many weddings where the bride and groom do not claim Jesus as their Messiah. Are you implying that I think less of their commitment because they aren’t “Christians”? That is horribly judgmental, and quite erroneous. I would submit to you this blog post as to how I feel about this. http://www.iamaposer.com/?p=974
It takes guts to post your opinions (however anonymous) in a place that differs form you, and I respect that, however this is not a forum for such discussions. I would gladly discuss this further in email, mine is im@beaposer.com.
Thanks for stopping by :)
Absolutely not the place to start this debate ” Farmer John”! Would be interresting to hear what Ansel and the rest of the greats think of that!
